Ashlar Stone
Ashlar blocks are large rectangular blocks of limestone sculpted to have square edges and even faces. These blocks are generally 13 to 15 inches in height.
It is generally smooth sawn, six-sided, hand rubbed and then used to build a wall.
The oolitic limestone of this standard is generally laid on a 2mm or 3mm mortar bed. Block sizes are up to 450m long by 300mm high and 100mm thick although Stanleys Quarry can produce any size limited only by the size of raw quarry block.
